MAPs classes meet weekly for two (2) hours per week for six (6) weeks. Participants will complete daily home practice meditation assignments starting at five minutes a day and working up to 20 minutes daily by the end of the course. Participants will also receive a complimentary Home Practice CD and a copy of the book "Fully Present: The Science, Art, and Practice of Mindfulness" by Susan Smalley, PhD. and Diana Winston. ​​

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Class Registration Policy Registration is not guaranteed until payment is received. Registration with payment is strongly encouraged as class sizes are limited and do fill quickly. If you pre-register without payment and the class fills, you will be notified and placed on a waitlist.  Refund and Cancellation Policy: Refunds requested in advance of 5PM on FRIDAY of that first week of class will be assessed a $25 administrative fee.We regret that we cannot give refunds after this date. Refunds should be requested by phone or email. Please honor our refund policy. Postponing a Class:  Credit towards a future class will be provided if a registrant notifies us by phone or email in advance of 5PM on Friday of the first week of the class series. Future class must the one immediately following the missed class series. NO EXCEPTIONS. (for example: if postponing a May/June class series you will have to use your credit and enroll in the  July/August class series) Make-up Class:  If you miss a class, you may make up ONE class within the current series at your level only. No refund or prorate will be issued for missed classes. MARC reserves the right to cancel classes due to low enrollment. Registrants will be notified in advance of the class. No refunds or credits are given to registrant “no-shows”. ​

UCLA Mindfulness Awareness Practices MAPS I and MAPS II October courses 

This course will be taught by Heather Prete, UCLA Mindfulness Certification graduate and MAPS teacher. 

These six week classes are open to the public. MAPs is helpful for people of all backgrounds and religions.

These classes are suitable for ages 16 and up.


​​​​​The MAPS II course: cultivating positive emotions

​In this follow up class to MAPs I, we will learn how to cultivate loving kindness,

compassion, equanimity, joy, gratitude, and forgiveness.

This is a helpful expansion to your mindfulness practice.
We will learn new meditations to develop these qualities,

tools to work with when we find them ourselves stuck and not feeling positive emotions,

and practical exercises to incorporate them into our daily life. This is a helpful

expansion to our basic mindfulness practice.
Prerequisite: MAPs I or equivalent 
If you have not taken a MAPs I class at MARC, please email us a brief description of you equivalent experience to

marcinfo@ucla.edu before class start date.



​​The MAPS I course:  an excellent introduction to mindfulness for beginners.

MAPS provides insight into the basics of mindfulness, how to develop a

mindfulness meditation practice, and how mindfulness can be applied in daily

life. It is also appropriate for an experienced practitioner who wishes to revitalize

his/her practice. MAPS I Class Participants will learn mindful concepts that

include: Overview of mindfulness​, Working with difficult emotions, Mindfulness

of the Body, Cultivating positive emotion, Obstacles to mindfulness, Working

with difficult thoughts, Mindfulness to help with physical pain, Mindful interactions
